JOANNE FLATT PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC COUNSELLOR (MNCPS ACC.)

Joanne Flatt Therapy - Compassionate therapeutic support through life's challenges

THERAPEUTIC SUPPORT FOR YOU

On the outside, it might look like you have it all together — balancing family, work, and life’s demands. But beneath the surface, you might be feeling anxious, stressed, or exhausted, wondering why everything feels so hard when others seem to glide through with ease. Maybe life has thrown challenges your way — big changes like new parenthood, relationship shifts, or career crossroads — or perhaps you’re carrying the weight of long-standing self-doubt, low confidence, or anxious thoughts. When you prioritise everyone else’s needs, who supports you?

Here, you can set down the weight of holding everything together. Pluralistic counselling offers flexible, compassionate support shaped around what you need — whether that’s exploring difficult thoughts and feelings, making space to process and heal after life knocks you down, creating positive change for the future, or simply finding time to pause, breathe and be heard.

No judgment, no pressure, and no advice you didn’t ask for — just a calm, supportive space where you can reconnect with yourself, because you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Hi i’m Joanne, a professional Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and accredited registrant member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society, which means I work in line with strict professional and ethical guidelines to ensure you receive safe, respectful, and compassionate support. I’m also a qualified Hypnotherapist and a certified Birth and Breastfeeding Practitioner.

I work with a wide range of people, offering support for whatever life might be bringing up. I often work with people navigating anxiety and depression — including during pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period — as well as fears and phobias. I also support those working on breaking the cycle of unhelpful generational patterns — meaning they’re choosing to parent, live, or relate to others differently from how they were raised, or are working through the impact of family experiences and beliefs that no longer serve them.

I offer sessions from my home practice in Felsted near Dunmow and online, making it easier for you to access support in a way that fits around your life. My aim is to offer a warm, non-judgmental space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported—whatever you’re going through.

My Therapeutic Approach

Counselling is a space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental way. It’s a place where you can work through difficult emotions, find healthier ways to cope, and create positive changes in your life. As a pluralistic therapist, I draw on a range of different approaches to best support you. This means I can adapt to what feels right for you—whether you need a space to talk and be heard, learn new strategies for managing anxiety or stress, or explore deeper patterns from the past. Some approaches focus on understanding your feelings in the present, while others help uncover how past experiences shape who you are today. I work in a way that’s flexible, so that together, we can find your path. Find out more about my therapeutic approach here.

Online

Life is busy, and finding time for yourself can be hard. That’s why I offer online sessions—giving you the flexibility to access support from wherever is convienient and comfortable for you. No travel, no stress—just a safe, welcoming space where you can show up exactly as you are.

Neurodiversity affirming

I have experience working with people who are Autistic, ADHD, or are otherwise neurodivergent. My counselling approach is rooted in the belief that neurodiversity is something to celebrate, whilst also acknowledging the unique challenges that can come with being neurodiverse and navigating a neurotypical world. I tailor my approach to you and your unique needs and preferences, with the goal of creating a space where you feel understood, accepted, and free to be your authentic self, whatever your neurotype.

Finding the right therapist

I know that choosing the right therapist is such a personal thing and it's difficult to make a decision just by searching online. Thats's why I offer a free, no obligation, 15 minute introduction call as an opportunity for us to chat and get a feel for whether we might work well together.
