Compassionate Support Through Life's Challenges
On the outside, you might seem like you’ve got it all together. On the inside, you might be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or burnt out. Perhaps self-doubt is weighing you down, or you’re struggling with family, relationships, or setting boundaries. Counselling offers a calm, supportive space where you can be truly heard, process what’s difficult, and start making meaningful changes — at your own pace, without judgment or pressure. After all, you can’t pour from an empty cup.
I work with a wide range of challenges and am here to support you with whatever feels hard right now. I've have particular experience with:
Offering you neuro-affirming support, understanding and space to thrive authentically.
Navigate, strengthen and heal from challenging family dynamics and relationships.
Fears & Phobias
A phobia or intense fear can feel all-consuming, shaping your day-to-day life. Avoiding situations or feeling anxious at the thought of them can be exhausting. These feelings are real — but they don’t have to control your future. I offer counselling and hypnotherapy, often used together, to help ease fear's hold and create new ways of thinking and behaving. Many clients find this approach brings calm, confidence, and a sense of freedom to move forward. Find out more about counselling and hypnotherapy help for fear and phobias here.
Perinatal Support
Pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood can stir a mix of joy, worry, and exhaustion. You may feel pressure to “enjoy every moment” while quietly struggling with prenatal & postnatal anxiety, overwhelm or pre & postnatal depression & low mood. I provide a compassionate, steady space to explore whatever this stage brings — from preparing for birth, processing difficult experiences, or finding your feet in early parenthood. Together, we’ll work towards feeling more grounded, supported, and confident in your role. Find out more about therapeutic support for the perinatal period here.
Neuro-affirming Therapy
Being autistic, having ADHD, or identifying as neurodivergent can make navigating the world exhausting, overwhelming, or isolating. It’s easy to feel misunderstood or out of step with expectations that weren’t designed for you. I offer a neurodiversity-affirming space to explore your experiences, celebrate your strengths, and live authentically while protecting your well-being. Whether you’re newly exploring your identity or have known for some time, this is a place to be heard, supported, and valued.Find out more about neuro-affirming therapy here.
Navigating Family Dynamics & Relationships
Relationships are central to life — but they can also bring pain, confusion, and repeated patterns. You might struggle to communicate your needs, feel weighed down by expectations, or carry hurt from past relationships. Therapy can help you understand these dynamics, heal old wounds, explore healthy boundaries, and discover new ways of relating. Together, we’ll find approaches that feel balanced, supportive, and empowering, helping you build healthier connections while staying true to yourself.

Feel truly heard in a safe, supportive space
Understand how past experiences shape the present
Explore unhelpful patterns and create new coping strategies
Strengthen self-worth and confidence

About Me
Joanne Flatt Prof. Dip Psy C. & MNCPS Acc.
I’m a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (MNCPS) and qualified Hypnotherapist, offering a pluralistic approach to therapy — blending therapeutic models to suit your unique needs. For some, this means exploring and processing past experiences; for others, it’s about practical tools for the here and now. When working with anxiety & phobias, I often combine counselling and hypnotherapy, which many clients find especially effective.
I’m also a certified Birth and Breastfeeding Practitioner, supporting parents through pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Most importantly, I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can make sense of your experiences at a pace that feels safe.
I offer sessions from my home practice in Felsted near Dunmow, Essex and online and typically have availability Monday-Thursday 9am-3pm.
